Enroll in the Ann Arbor Public Schools
On National Teacher Appreciation Day and every day, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to educators who shape the future through their dedication, patience, and commitment to learning. Thank you, AAPS teachers, for the countless hours and endless encouragement and guidance you provide every day.
Students, staff, and community members gathered at Dicken Elementary on Friday for a groundbreaking ceremony marking the start of construction on a new building that will serve Ann Arbor Public Schools for generations to come.
The ceremony was held on the school grounds at 2135 Runnymede, and marked the official start of construction on the new school adjacent to the existing site.
The rain held off just long enough on Friday as Burns Park Elementary School celebrated a momentous milestone—its 100th birthday. Students, staff, alumni, and community members gathered outside the school for a Centennial Celebration that honored its history while looking toward its future.
The school grounds transformed into a time capsule of both past and present. Community High School musicians played 1920s jazz, transporting attendees back to the era when Burns Park first opened its doors. Kids happily climbed into classic cars, offering a glimpse into the transportation landscape of a century ago.
The Pioneer High School A Cappella Choir has been named one of the Michigan School Vocal Music Association’s 2025 Outstanding Choirs through a rigorous blind audition process.
This prestigious designation—equivalent to a state championship—is awarded to only two choirs statewide, representing the highest level of recognition from MSVMA.
Last week, Huron Arabic teacher Shaima Basuni thought she was coming to Principal Che Carter’s office to discuss scheduling for next year, instead she was surprised by members of the A2Y Chamber’s Teacher of the Year Committee. Basuni received the 2025 LaFontaine Teacher of the Year’s Commendable Teacher award.
